Biham de Pegaso
Le "petit" de la bande
Lorsqu'il est arrivé chez nous avec sa mère Naïa, Biham avait juste six mois et était sauvage, craintif, inabordable, tout comme sa mère qui en plus de sa méfiance était sans relâche sur la défensive. Ils avaient été sauvés tous les deux d'un mauvais sort par une association qui lutte contre la maltraitance. Comme nous venions de perdre une jument laissant une pouliche orpheline, une place s'était libérée pour accueillir ces deux chevaux. Le nom de Biham de Pegaso n'a pas été choisi au hasard. Biham le nom de l'étoile Thêta Pegasi, signifie "étoile chanceuse", une des étoiles de la constellation de Pégase.
A son arrivée, il a fallu coincer le "petit" qui était déjà un beau gars à la tête énorme, pour le manipuler. Je l'ai immobilisé dans un coin de l'écurie et lui ai immédiatement fait une séance de grattouilles ce qui l'a autant surpris que séduit. Depuis, il est accro. Fini les craintes, Monsieur a découvert ce que c'est que d'être un cheval collant. Se prendrait-il pour un Labrador ?
Le bonheur qu'a ainsi trouvé notre poulain géant l'a fait si bien oublier toute mauvaise expérience avec l'homme que c'est lui qui a apaisé l'attitude de sa mère envers nous. Finalement, leur débourrage sous la selle a été une formalité. Surtout Biham a tellement envie d'être proche de nous et de nous faire plaisir qu'il suffit de lui faire comprendre de quoi il s'agit pour qu'il ait envie de le faire, et bien.
Biham est le plus grand, le plus lourd, le plus fort de nos chevaux. Naïa, sa mère, est une jument de trait Comtoise, son père un grand Trait Breton. Le résultat n'est pas vraiment un mini-poney rétréci au lavage ... Biham est aussi le plus doux des chevaux. Il est l'ami de tous les enfants, de tous ceux qui ont besoin de se forger une relation sans peur avec le cheval, de tous ceux qui ont envie d'apprendre à les approcher, manipuler ou de promener leurs enfants ou encore de découvrir leur équilibre sur son grand dos large, rassurant et confortable.
Biham est d'une intelligence et d'une souplesse qui sont étonnants. Où qu'il soit, nul besoin de se soucier : s'il y a la moindre chose à signaler, Biham sait comment sortir du pré, il trouvera le moindre passage, le moindre trou de souris, et il passera et viendra avertir. Se prendrait-il pour un chien ?
Our giant pony
When we recovered Biham and his mother Naïa, Biham was hardly six months old, very shy, apprehensive and almost impossible to approach. Whi was not unlike his mother's attitude who showed us not only her mistrust but also her readiness to defend her little one. Both had been saved from suffering thanks to the commitment of an association that fights against mistreatment of animals. Since we had lost a mare and had an orphan filly, we decided to adaopt the two horses and give our filly a foal friend. We called the foal Biham de Pegaso which fits him well. Biham is the name of one of the stars of the Pegasus constellation and means "lucky star".
Upon his arrival, we had to trap the little one in a corner. He was already quite a stout guy with an enormous head. Once he was caught and held tight, I started scrtching him all over and to his great surprise, he loved it ! Ever since he has forgotten about his fears and has become a scratch-addict following us anywhere in oder to be near to us and get stroked. Should he take himself for a Labrador dog ?
The foal's fondness and attachment towards us has also led his mother to overcome her mistrust. When we taught both of them to join our activities and be ridden, this turned out to be a simple formality. Especially Biham is to eager to be with us and feel us being content with him, that all we have to do is make him understand what we expect him to do, and he will do his best to do it well.
Biham is our tallest, heaviest, stoutest and strongest "pony". This is we jokingly call him. Naïa, his mother, is a Comtois draught mare, his father is a much taller Trait Breton draught horse. The result is not really something like a miniature pony ... Biham is also extremely careful and gentle especially with children. His friendly attitude is a blessing for anybody in search of a fearless relationship with a horse, or eager to learn how to approach or care for a horse, take him out for a walk with children on horseback, or descover how safe, comfortable and welcoming Biham's large back can be.
Biham is a really smart horse. Wherever he may be, you need not worry. If there is anything wrong, Biham nows how to get out of his pasture, he knows any hole or passage and will get out even if its just a mouse hole size. And then he will come and tell us. Should he take himself for a dog ?
